PlayStation 5 has now been rumored to be delayed even later than expected, according to an industry expert. After Sony announced that the PS5 is confirmed to be the next thing that the company works on, it is now suggested that the console will not hit stores until 2021.
Lewis Ward, IDC research director for gaming and VR/AR told Gamingbolt about what will happen in the next few years to come. He said: “Right now I think PS5 and the next-gen Xbox will arrive in 2021, but that’s really just a tentative placeholder in my forecast.”
Ward believes that due to the success of the PS4, the PlayStation 5 will be delayed a few years, especially since he predicts that the PS4 will hit 100 million sales in 2019. This only backs up the case that the console will not be coming next year and that the console will arrive in the early years of the 2020’s.
Michael Pachter, industry expert and Wedbush Securities analyst, told Gamingbolt before that he believed it would come in 2019, which is sooner than what Lewis Ward suggested. However, he does back up why Lewis Ward believes it would come later than expected. Pachter said:
“Sony’s making so much money with the PS4 that I think they’ll continue to milk it as long as they can milk it.”
With PS4 predicted to hit 100 million sales in the next following year, it is no surprise that they would delay the console until sales drop. But, the PS4 will have tight competition since the Xbox One X is claimed to be 40% more powerful than the PS4 and the Nintendo Switch has hit 10 million sales worldwide and has overtaken the PS2 first-year sales in Japan, so it will be interesting to see what Sony do next.
