It seems Sony will be showing off more PlayStation games on PC soon enough. First of all, Sony has made an official PlayStation Studios publisher page on Steam, which I assume will be replacing the PlayStation Mobile, Inc page function-wise. On it, you can see that the page lists three games and 21 DLCs. But if you clicked on the About tab, you can see that the publisher page actually has 41 titles!
All the currently publicly shown games are Predator: Hunting Grounds, Horizon: Zero Dawn, and Helldivers; Days Gone is only registered in the Upcoming Release tab. While the 21 DLCs are for Helldivers and Predator: Hunting Ground. That means the page is still hiding 16 other games and/or DLCs. Surprise announcements at or around E3, anyone?
Nevertheless, additional Steam releases from PlayStation Studios shouldn’t really come as a surprise. Previously PlayStation boss Jim Ryan has already shown interest in bringing more PlayStation exclusive games to the PC platform. Here’s what he had to say about the matter when speaking with GQ magazine:
There’s an opportunity to expose those great games to a wider audience and recognize the economics of game development, which are not always straightforward. The cost of making games goes up with each cycle, as the calibre of the IP has improved. Also, our ease of making it available to non-console owners has grown.”
He further explains why he believes it’s a good idea to bring these games to PC gaming:
We assessed the exercise in two ways. Firstly, in terms of the straightforward success of the activity of publishing the game on PC, people liked it and they bought it. We also looked at it through the lens of what the PlayStation community thought about it. There was no massive adverse reaction to it. So we will continue to take mission steps in this direction.”
Considering, it is definitely a lucrative move from Sony. PC gamers will have the opportunity to finally get their hands on PlayStation exclusives while Sony will be able to sell their older titles once more. What games are you hoping to get ported, Bloodborne, God of War, or Little Big Planet maybe? Personally, I wish they could port first-party PS Vita games to give those hidden gems a second wind, but I know it won’t happen. Well, drop by in the comments and tell me what you think.
