Just like in other Pokemon games, Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl also feature many Pokemon with different types. Since each has its own weaknesses, understanding them is important so that you know how to use and fight against them in battles. This time we’ll take a look at Electric-Type Pokemon weakness in Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl.
Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl: Electric Type Weaknesses
Pikachu, the series’ mascot, is one of the more popular Electric-type Pokemon. In Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, Electric-types like Pikachu will receive twice more damage if attacked by Ground-type moves. But on the other hand, Ground Pokemon will be completely immune against Electric attacks. With that in mind, if you’re facing something like Rhydon, Sandshrew, or Champion Cynthia’s infamous Garchomp you should always swap your Electric Pokemon with something else.
You also need to keep in mind the strengths of Electric-types as well. They can easily destroy Flying Pokemon such as Pidgeot or Staraptor and Water Pokemon like Milotic. And obviously, if they are Water/Flying or Flying/Water-type Pokemon (Wingull and Gyarados, for example), Electric moves will deal four times the damage than usual. Below is the list of types Electric Pokemon are strong against:
- Receive 1/2x damage from these attacks:
- Electric
- Flying
- Steel
- Deal 2x damage against these types:
- Flying
- Water

Of course, you can simply use any other Pokemon that aren’t Flying or Water-types when dealing with Electric Pokemon. But learning the basics of Pokemon types will be useful if you encounter one but don’t have the right Pokemon to face off against it. Both Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Pokémon Shining Pearl are available now on the Nintendo Switch.
