In Pokémon Brilliant Diamond/Shining Pearl, Pokémon like the Ghost types use the strengths and weaknesses stats based on Generation IV. Understanding their weaknesses is important so that you know how to play with them and fight against them.
Ghost Type Weaknesses in Brilliant Diamond/Shining Pearl
Do you have a pretty reliable Ghost type companion in your party? Or have you encountered one? The Champion has a rather powerful Ghost/Dark Pokémon, Spiritomb. So, it does pay to understand the weaknesses of Ghost Pokémon so you can better combat them. In Pokémon Brilliant Diamond/Shining Pearl, Ghost type have weaknesses to Ghost and Dark moves.
It’s a bit of an interesting situation that Ghost type Pokémon are weak to attacks from their own. So, it can help to use another Ghost Pokémon when battling one. A pure one like Misdreavus can help. Dusknoir is another useful one as it’s both a Ghost and Dark type.
At the same time, you can always pull out a Dark one instead. Dual ones like Skuntank are good here. Additionally, you can also take a page out of the Champion’s book if you have a Spiritomb.
Keep in mind the strengths of Ghost type as well. They are, of course, highly effective against themselves. However, they are also effective against Psychic Pokémon. So, if you encounter a Ghost type, don’t pull out the likes of Kadabra as they will see some heavy damage from Ghost Pokémon.
Alternatively, you know you can always pull out your Ghost type if facing a Psychic Pokémon.

Of course, you can simply use some of your other Pokémon that aren’t Ghost or Dark types but simply know how to learn those types of moves. This can be useful if you encounter a Ghost type but don’t have the right Pokémon to face off against them.
It can be quite a conundrum when a Pokémon type is both weak and strong against themselves. In Pokémon Brilliant Diamond/Shining Pearl, Ghost type have weaknesses against their own type. However, as they are weak to Dark moves, you do have some variety in how you can attack them.
