Magmar is a Fire-type Pokemon first introduced in Generation I in Pokemon Green. The baby Pokemon Magby evolves into Magmar, which then evolves into Magmortar. While Magby will evolve into Magmar after reaching level 30, evolving Magmar into Magmortar requires a specific item. By the end of this guide, you will learn how to evolve Magmar in Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl.
How to Evolve Magmar in Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl?
If you do not yet have Magby, you can find the Pokemon in the Grand Underground. However, catching Magby, Magmar and Magmortar is exclusive to Pokemon Shining Pearl. This means that if you are playing Pokemon Brilliant Diamond, you will need to trade with another player that plays Shining Pearl. If you are a Shining Pearl player, you can encounter wild Magby Pokemon in Typhlo Cavern and Volcanic Cave. Upon catching Magby, it will eventually evolve into Magmar once it reaches level 30.

Once your Magby has evolved into Magmar, you will need to obtain a Magmarizer. Every Magby Pokemon in the game has a 5 percent chance of holding a Magmarizer item. Your chances of encountering a Magby holding Magmarizer increase if you bring a Pokemon with the Super Luck ability. For example, having Murkrow, Absol or Togetic will help raise your chances of finding Magmarizer on a wild Magby. You can either catch the Pokemon or use the Thief move to take the item from here.
Upon obtaining the Magmarizer item, have your Magmar Pokemon hold the Magmarizer. From here, trade your Magmar with someone you trust. The trade will trigger Magmar’s evolution into Magmortar. You can then trade again and obtain your newly-acquired Magmortar.
