While engaging in combat with your Pokemon, you can only have up to four moves that each of your Pokemon can perform. With a limited move set, you may end up replacing a move that you did not want to lose or grow tired of one and want to replace it. Your Pokemon can remember these lost moves, but you will need heart scales before doing so. By the end of this guide, you will learn how to get heart scales in Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl.
How to Get Heart Scales in Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl
In Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, there is no way to purchase heart scales. Instead, you will need to venture out into the wild and find them. There are four main methods to finding heart scales:
- Mining in the Grand Underground
- On Route 212
- On Route 214
- Catching wild Luvdisc on Route 224 using a Super Rod
The first method of getting heart scales is digging in the Grand Underground. However, they are very small, so be sure to dig up every spot until you get a pop-up saying that you dug everything up. They are also rare, so it may take numerous tries before you find one. Alternatively, you can catch wild Luvdiscs on Route 224 once you obtain a super rod. However, you will need to access Victory Road before you can go to Route 224.

You can also find heart scales on Route 212. Head southwest through Pastroia City until you reach the Route 212 sign. From here, continue heading southwest through the grass patches. You will find the first scale in the corner of a patch of trees next to the shard collectors house.
Another heart scale is located along Route 214. Starting from the Route 214 sign, head southeast through the fence maze. You will find a patch of grass in a circular shape, with one patch missing in the circle. Stand on this square and interact with the spot to find another scale.
Once you obtain some heart scales, you can visit the Move Tutor NPC in Pastoria City. In exchange for a heart scale, he will teach your Pokemon a previously learned move.
