Mega Aggron, the Mega evolution of the Aron family, is a new Raid Boss featured in Pokémon GO‘s Mega Raids, which will be live from Friday, September 16, 2022, to Tuesday, September 27, 2022. This massive Steel-type giant will possess around 46,000 CP, wielding high ATK and DEF that both exceed 200. Needless to say, Trainers would be wise to take on this Raid Boss with at least three or more parties in their group, as Mega Aggron can absorb and dish out tons of damage. Catching Shiny Mega Aggron In Pokémon GO
According to Pokémon GO‘s official website, it is possible for Trainers to encounter a Shiny Mega Aggron during the capture sequence of the Raid Boss. The Pokémon’s Shiny appearance will come to fruition only after the pocket monster has been defeated in the Raid, as there is no way to know if the creature is Shiny prior to the battle.

Nevertheless, Pokémon GO Trainers should keep in mind that the chances of encountering a Shiny Mega Aggron are still moderately low. Therefore, the best way to catch one would be to complete multiple Mega Raids featuring this Pokémon. Such a process will take some time unless players have Remote Raid Passes on hand.
To defeat and catch Mega Aggron or its Shiny variant in Pokémon GO, Trainers will need to understand the pocket monster’s resistances, weaknesses, and counters. As a Steel-type monster, Mega Aggron is strong against Normal-, Flying-, Rock-, Bug- Steel-, Grass-, Psychic-, Ice-, Dragon-, Fairy-, and Poison-type Moves. On the other hand, it is vulnerable to Fighting-, Ground-, and Fire-type attacks. With this knowledge in mind, the Pokémon below are considered to be the best counters for Mega Aggron, according to Pokebattler:
Mega Aggron Counter | Type | Best Fast Move | Best Charged Move |
Lucario | Fighting and Steel | Counter | Aura Sphere |
Conkeldurr | Fighting | Counter | Dynamic Punch |
Machamp | Fighting | Counter | Dynamic Punch |
Excadrill | Ground and Steel | Mud-Slap | Earthquake |
Emboar | Fighting and Fire | Low Kick | Blast Burn |
Blaziken | Fighting and Fire | Counter | Blast Burn |
Darmanitan | Fire | Fire Fang | Overheat |
As Trainers can see from the index above, Fighting- and Fire-type monsters are the most effective against Mega Aggron. This is not to say Ground is not as good since any of Aggron’s three countering elements will be more practical than other types in Pokémon GO.
Pokémon GO is available on iOS and Android.
