Rockruff, the pearl oyster-like Pokemon, and its evolution were added to Pokemon GO in February 2019, after most other Hoenn/Generation III creatures. This Water-type Pokemon debuted in the Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire title for the Gameboy Advance, which was released on March 19, 2003. In Pokemon GO, Clamperl has a different evolution method than the original Gameboy Advance games. This article will help tell you how to transform its fragile shell into either Huntail or Gorebyss.
How to Evolve Clamperl into Huntail and Gorebyss in Pokemon GO
In Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire, Clamperl can be evolved into two other Water-type, deepsea creature-like Pokemon: Huntail and Gorebyss. Unfortunately, if you are looking for specific ways to turn Clamperl into one of them, you are out of luck; due to the random nature of Clamperl evolutions, getting both Huntail and Gorebyss will be a matter of chance after you gave it 50 Clamperl Candy. Sometimes, it will turn into a Huntail, and other times it evolves into a Gorebyss.
Meanwhile, in the original Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire (or the Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire) titles, evolving a Clamperl into Huntail or Gorebyss is much more straightforward. For Huntail, all you need to do is to trade it with a friend while making it hold the Deep Sea Tooth item. And for Gorebyss, you need to trade a Clamperl currently holding the Deep Sea Scale item instead. Niantic probably does this to keep the in-game item pool as little as possible to not overwhelm the majority of casual players. This also could explain why most Generation IV Pokemon only require the Sinnoh Stone instead of specific items or Elemental Stones compared to the original Pokemon Pearl and Diamond.
