Add some golden Shinies to your collection during the Searching for Gold Research Day Event in Pokemon Go. As its name suggests, Trainers can go on a “treasure hunt” on Saturday, June 3, 2023, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. local time. Instead of collecting currencies like Stardust or PokeCoins, you’ll search for Pokemon with golden-yellow appearances in their Shiny forms. Pokemon Go Searching for Gold Research Day also includes an event-exclusive Timed Research, purchasable for 1 USD in the in-game shop.
All Featured Pokemon in Searching for Gold Research Day
During Searching for Gold in Pokemon Go, Trainers can expect to encounter the following featured Pokemon, along with their golden Shinies:
Featured Pokemon | Elemental Type | Evolution Requirements |
Caterpie | Bug |
|
Barboach | Water and Ground |
|
Nosepass | Rock |
|
Magikarp | Water |
|
Sableye | Dark and Ghost |
|
While all of the above have their merits, we suggest focusing on farming Shiny Magikarp and evolving one into Shiny Gyarados. Not only does the hot-red Gyarados look visually spectacular, but the Evolution itself is a formidable contender for matchups weak to Water.

How To Catch Shiny Pokemon During Searching for Gold
There are two ways to catch Shiny Pokemon during Searching for Gold Research Day in Pokemon Go. The first involves spinning Photo Discs at PokeStops during the event. Doing so will grant you event-themed Field Research Tasks that can be completed for a guaranteed encounter with one of the five Pokemon listed above. We recommend participating while moving, as you’ll have the opportunity to encounter more PokeStops while walking about.
The second way to find Shinies during the event is directly tied to moving around and experiencing Wild Encounters. The following will appear more often in the Wild, and all of them can be Shiny: Weedle, Bellsprout, Poochyena, Buizel, Tympole, Shelmet, and Stufful. Lickitung and Azumarill also have a chance of appearing, albeit with a lower spawn rate. Only Lickitung will feature its Shiny variation.
Searching for Gold Event Bonus
While there aren’t any substantial Event Bonuses like on Community Day: Axew, Searching for Gold in Pokemon Go will feature a special bonus Gimmighoul fans will appreciate. Specifically, “PokeStops may turn gold without a Golden Lure Module,” allowing Trainers to find Gimmighoul Coins by spinning golden Photo Discs.
For those unfamiliar, Gimmighoul Coins are required to evolve Roaming Form Gimmighoul into Gholdengo. However, note that Roaming Form Gimmighoul will not spawn at Golden PokeStops if a Golden Lure Module has not been activated.
As mentioned above, Searching for Gold Timed Research in Pokemon Go is available for purchase in the shop. It will stay for sale until Saturday, June 3, 2023, at 5:00 p.m. local time. Trainers should remember that the tasks and rewards involved must be claimed before the event’s conclusion as well.
