Moltres is a Fire and Flying-type Pokemon in Pokemon GO. While Moltres is resistant to a whopping seven different types, there are also three types to be wary of. Having familiarity with these types will help you during future battles and raids, both with and against Moltres. This guide will provide information on Moltres’ weakness in Pokemon GO.
What is Moltres’ Weakness in Pokemon GO?
In Pokemon GO, Moltres’ main weaknesses are Rock, Water and Electric-type moves. This weakness is especially true for Rock-type moves where the damage is amplified by 256%. Although not quite as deadly, water and electric-type moves still deal 160% of their normal damage. With this in mind, many Pokemon out there with these three move types are great to use. The following are some examples of Pokemon and movesets that deal increased damage to Moltres during battles in Pokemon GO:
- Rampardos: Smack Down and Rock Slide
- Rhyperior: Smack Down and Rock Wrecker or Smack Down and Stone Edge
- Tyranitar: Smack Down and Stone Edge
- Aerodactyl: Rock Throw and Rock Slide
- Gigalith: Smack Down and Rock Slide or Smack Down and Stone Edge
- Golem: Rock Throw and Stone Edge

Seven different types are also ineffective against Moltres. While most deal 63% of their regular damage, two deal only 39%. Moltres is resistant to the following types in Pokemon GO:
- Ground-type (63%)
- Fighting-type (63%)
- Steel-type (63%)
- Fire-type (63%)
- Fairy-type (63%)
- Bug-type (39%)
- Grass-type (39%)
Using particular Pokemon and movesets will help you greatly during fights against Moltres. For example, while commonly used main moves for Terrakion include Sacred Sword and Close Combat, neither of these are nearly as effective against Moltres as Rock Slide is. However, the six Pokemon above are just a few examples of the many Pokemon you can use. Using any Pokemon with Rock, Water or Electric-type moves and avoiding the seven listed above will help increase your odds of winning a battle against Moltres. Similarly, if you’re up against any of these types, using Moltres to absorb some damage will help protect your other Pokemon. Just be sure not to swap in Moltres against a Rock-type Pokemon unless you have no other choice!
