It’s been almost a full calendar year, but Mewtwo is finally returning to Pokemon Go raid battles soon. Mewtwo will not only be returning to raids, but he will appear with a familiar look. For those who grew up watching the anime, they will recognize Mewtwo in his armored form, first seen in Pokemon: The First Movie. You can get a good look at the mysterious Pokemon in the reveal trailer below.
Following the announcement, Niantic shared additional information on the Pokemon Go blog. According to the post, Armored Mewtwo will be available in level 5 raids from July 10th at 4 pm EST, through the end of the month. Little else is known about the upcoming Mewtwo raids, but we can assume a few things from the trailer. The main point is that the mysterious Pokemon seems to be slightly more powerful than the original version. At a whopping CP of 49,430, Armored Mewtwo will be extremely powerful. With the help of weather boosts and friendship boosts, it should take a solid handful of trainers to take him down!
The other thing that can be pulled from the trailer is just where the design of Armored Mewtwo is coming from. It seems that the upcoming CGI remake of Mewtwo Strikes Back Evolution is what has inspired this iteration of the iconic Pokemon. The timing makes sense that Mewtwo is coming back as Mewtwo Strikes Back Evolution launches on July 12th in Japan. What better what to promote the film than having millions of fans going out to catch this legendary Pokemon.
Mewtwo’s return to the game will not remove the Legendary raids that are currently available in Pokemon Go. Additionally, Mewtwo will be available in regular raids rather than the special EX Raid’s that he previously appeared in. For all your Pokemon news, be sure to check back to The Nerd Stash.
