It’s a great time to be a Pokémon fan. Sword and Shield have been a roaring success since their launch and their first DLC drop is arriving soon. Game Freak has been showering players with Mystery Gift Pokémon and rare items. Pokémon Go is still popular and Pokétubers are making tons of content. We’ve been spoiled with the Pokémon Home cloud-service. And right now, Pokémon Home is giving users all three Galar starter Pokémon for free.
That’s right. You can receive all three of the Sword and Shield starters, Grookey, Scorbunny, and Sobble, today.
I Choose You, and You, and You
This freebie is awesome for players that are often indecisive regarding which starter Pokémon to pick. It’s also a great chance for returning players to restart their game with a brand-new team for the upcoming Isle of Armor DLC. Many Pokémon players have wondered how they’d feel about a different partner-Pokémon and this will allow players to build bonds with each of the three at will.
However, this event is more than a simple giveaway. These three specific copies of the fire-grass-water trio are the first of their kind. Each will arrive on your Nintendo Switch with their Hidden Abilities. Something that was never featured in Pokémon Sword and Shield beforehand.
Grookey will possess Grassy Surge. This Hidden Ability will automatically setup Grassy Terrain as soon as Grookey enters the battle. Scorbunny’s Hidden Ability is Libero. Libero will change Scorbunny’s typing to match whichever move he uses in battle. For example, if Scorbunny used the move Brick Break, it would receive the bonus of being a Fighting-type during that attack. Lastly, Sobble will have Sniper; an ability that increases delivered damage from critical hits.
How To Get Your Galar Starter Pokémon
Again, obtaining these three Pokémon is free. All you’ll need to do is download the Pokémon Home application on your Nintendo Switch and your mobile device.
Here are the directions you’ll need to get your copy of each:
First, boot up your Switch and connect Pokémon Home with your copy of either Pokémon Sword or Shield. Transfer one Pokémon into Pokémon Home and then save and exit. Next, connect your mobile device’s app to your Nintendo account (the app will explain). Then simply select “Mystery Gift” from the options menu. Then choose “Gift Box”.
Congrats, you now have all three Galar region starter Pokémon with their Hidden Abilities. All that’s left is to transfer them from your Pokémon Home app on Nintendo Switch to your in-game PC.
