The newly released Pokemon Legends: Arceus has shaken up a lot of the long-running series’ familiar aspects and mechanics. With so many changes in this new game, players wonder whether the ability to battle friends made the transition to the new entry. This guide will let you know if it is possible to battle your friends in Pokemon Legends: Arceus.
Can You Battle Friends In Pokemon Legends: Arceus?
The simple answer is no; you currently cannot compete against friends in Pokemon Legends: Arceus. This is not only for online play but also for local play, meaning that there is no PVP aspect in the title. This was announced on the game’s official website. The in-game explanation for this is that with the game taking place 100 years before any of the mainline entries, Pokemon catching was much more of a focus instead of trainer battles, with only a few being skilled enough actually to train and tame the wild creatures. The ability to play with other people has been a staple in the series, with it most recently being present in Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, the recent remakes of the 2006 Generation IV games that take place in the future version of the Hisui region.

Although you cannot battle with your friends as of now, there is a multiplayer component in the game, which is the ability to trade Pokemon. While this is currently the only form of multiplayer, the fact that there is some sort of multiplayer system in place means that it is not impossible to add a PVP mode. However, that is purely speculation at this point. Right now, the official word is that you can’t battle friends in Pokemon Legends: Arceus.
