One of the most recognizable aspects of Pokemon is that post-battle evolution when the XP and rewards roll in after a victory. The screen fades to black and fades out with one last surprise showing up with your Pokemon transforming. Like with many aspects of the original series, Pokemon Legends: Arceus takes a new approach and provides some new twists on the all-too-familiar formula. Among these changes is how evolutions work, leading to some confusion for some long-time fans of the franchise. This guide will explain how to evolve your Pokemon in Pokemon Legends: Arceus.
How to Evolve Pokemon in Pokemon Legends: Arceus
Some aspects of this familiar process have been carried over from the mainline games and Pokemon Legends: Arceus. Most of the Pokemon simply need to reach a certain level to evolve. There are some special cases that will require an item to change your Pokemon such as elemental stones or the many other items needed. While this is a familiar aspect of the series, the new change to the system is a notable quality of life improvement that has players selecting the Pokemon in question.

In the other Pokemon titles, a Pokemon can evolve when it reached the required stats to do so, with the player having to hit a button to stop it from doing so every time a level up happens. Pokemon Legends: Arceus circumvented this by having players go into the menu and select the Pokemon they want to evolve. The Pokemon is ready to evolve when the Pokeball icon next to their name in the menu is glowing yellow. Simply scroll over to the Pokemon in question and press the X button to have it evolve and grow stronger.
Pokemon Legends: Arceus is available now on Nintendo Switch.
