There are several changes and additions to Nintendo‘s long-running Pokemon series in its latest entry, Pokemon Legends: Arceus. With a new approach to the game’s world, new Pokemon, and quality of life improvements to things like evolving, there is a fair bit of stuff that might need some explaining. Speaking of evolution, one of the new items in the game is the Linking Cord which is used to evolve certain Pokemon. With an essential item to the game’s central gameplay loop of catching, battling, and evolving Pokemon, it is crucial to understand where and what it is. This guide will explain what Linking Cords are, what they do, and where to find them in Pokemon Legends: Arceus.
Pokemon Legends: Arceus – Linking Cords Explained
The Linking Cord is an Evolution Item that can be used to evolve certain Pokemon. It is a nice little reference to the link cables used back on the GameBoy, where players would use the cable to link their devices together to trade Pokemon. Now the cords are obsolete when it comes to current devices with online trading, but it makes a return as an item in-game as a nostalgic easter egg that players can use to get Pokemon that require trading without needing to go through that process if they don’t want to. There are a few locations where you can find Linking Cords. First, go to the west of Galaxy Hall in Jubilife Village to find a Trading Post with an NPC named Simona. She will sell you the Linking Cord for 1,000 Merit. When traversing the open world, you might come across space-time distortions. If you enter these distortions, you will find some pretty rare loot like Stardust and Shards, as well as being able to find Linking Cords, though this is not guaranteed. You can also get a Linking Cord as a reward for completing Request #64, “Getting to Know Ghosts.”
There are a total of four Pokemon in Legends Arceus that require the Linking Cord to evolve. The Pokemon that evolve from the Linking Cord can still evolve through trading, but this is an item that can allow you to skip over that part. These Pokemon that can use the Cord are listed down below.
- Kadabra into Alakazam
- Machoke into Machamp
- Graveler into Golem
- Haunter into Gengar
