Far Cry 5 was released today at midnight despite being a month late and a few hours later, reviews for the game start bombarding the internet from various gaming sites. Players that started playing the game through the morning have already formed an opinion on Far Cry 5 and the majority seem to like the game, as the reviews on Steam are currently stated at ‘Very Positive’.
So, it was a surprise to see that Polygon gave Far Cry 5 a considerably low score of six and a half out of ten. IGN, however, gave Far Cry 5 an eight. Polygon commented on the story saying it “starts on a hollow note and never improves.” Throughout most of the review, the article criticises the storyline and that it does not touch on any current American politics. Ben Kuchera, the author of the article, felt that the game was a wasted opportunity to talk about the issues that are going on and that the storyline “undercuts any grand statement” made.
Once the review went up a few fans took to Twitter to voice their opinion on the review. One fan exclaimed:”Is this how far ‘gaming journalism’ has sunk?” Erk Kain, a writer for Forbes, even commented on the score on his Twitter account stating that:
“Also, Polygon giving
#FarCry5 a 6.5 is just rubbish. The story is definitely a weak point, but who cares? It’s a wonderful game regardless. A big open sandbox full of hilarious possibilities. The story is silly, sure, but you have to be pretty joyless to give it a 6.5.”
A lot of fans claimed that players do not play the game for the story, but for the gameplay instead. The review itself has 274 comments on it and it is growing every hour.
