The trailer for the upcoming PS5 game Stray looks like a blend of Cyberpunk 2077 and Death Stranding and you play a cat with a backpack, what could be better?
From the aptly named Annapurna Interactive, Stray will see players controlling a curious feline in a dystopian world where humans have vanished. The tiny little fluff of cuteness and terror is trying to find its way home in a world full of technology, androids, and robots.
Stray is a third-person cat adventure game set amidst the detailed neon-lit alleys of a decaying cybercity and the murky environments of its seedy underbelly. Roam surroundings high and low, defend against unforeseen threats and solve the mysteries of this unwelcoming place inhabited by nothing but unassuming droids and dangerous creatures.”
The trailer shows the cat walking around a city full of robots with televisions as heads. There are spray-painted words on buildings saying “R.I.P. Humans” and the cybernetic androids walking around seem to be on good terms with the cat.
Stray’s relation with Cyberpunk is obvious by watching the trailer. Yet its similarities with Death Stranding only mirror that the cat wears a tiny backpack. Unless you prowl around delivering mail to robots.
See the world through the eyes of a stray and interact with the environment in playful ways. Be stealthy, nimble, silly, and sometimes as annoying as possible with the strange inhabitants of this foreign world. Along the way, the cat befriends a small flying drone, known only as B12. With the help of this newfound companion, the due try to find a way out.”
Lost, alone, and separated from family, a stray cat must untangle an ancient mystery to escape a long-forgotten cybercity and find the way home.”
Stray is developed by Blue Twelve Studio and will be published by Annapurna Interactive sometime in 2021 for the PS5 and PC.
