Jason Schreier’s newest book PRESS RESET looks into what happens after a video game studio closes its doors for good. The book also examines how the developers move on. When it comes to information on the development of video games, it can be quite hard to come by. Game developers do not share the secrets of how your favorite games are made unless it is a smaller studio or done for promotional purposes.
PRESS RESET Follows Life After a Game Studio Closes its Doors
PRESS RESET focuses on game development studios, including Irrational Games, Visceral Games, and 38 Studios. While these studios are not in operation, they left a major impact on the industry.
Previously an investigative reporter for Kotaku, Schreier is now at Bloomberg News. Schreier has made a career of looking into the darker side of video game development. Most recently, Schreier has written on the crunch culture in the video game industry. Schreier has reported on the extensive crunch happening at CD Projekt Red as they gear up for the release of Cyberpunk 2077.
Schreier’s previous book, Blood, Sweat, and Pixels, examines the development of your favorite games, from indie darling Stardew Valley to massive AAA role-playing game Dragon Age: Inquisition. Blood, Sweat, and Pixels combine tremendous reporting and interviews to entrance the reader in the arduous process of video game development, so it will be interesting to see a new book from a different perspective.
