Prison Architect: Perfect Storm launched today. Paradox Interactive and Double Eleven made the surprise announcement in a press release earlier today.
Prison Architect: Perfect Storm‘s surprise launch is a bit unusual, especially considering how the base game was in Early Access for more than three years. Prison Architect tasks players with building and managing a prison. Of course, operating a prison presents unique risks and challenges. Avoid prison riots, keep prisoners safe and happy, and don’t exhaust your budget. Unless, of course, you want to run a bad prison. If you do, Prison Architect provides plenty of opportunities for mayhem, and the Prison Architect: Perfect Storm expansion is no exception.
“Calamities” are a key feature introduced in the new Prison Architect: Perfect Storm expansion. Calamities are major events that can negatively impact the prison. Temperatures can skyrocket or plummet to dangerous levels, storms can damage the facility, and rats can invade. These problems can affect health, happiness, and the prison’s ratings. According to today’s press release:
““The calamities in Perfect Storm challenge players to solve problems in creative ways, often requiring them to think ahead when constructing their compound. We’ve worked hard to respectfully present calamities as fun challenges players can overcome using Prison Architect’s signature management gameplay,” says Gaz Wright, Game Director on Prison Architect at Double Eleven. “Like our past expansions, the calamities are inspired by popular prison fiction seen in shows and films. It’s great if players start thinking about these issues more critically and how they could be solved in the real world.””
A New Update Launches Alongside Perfect Storm
Paradox and Double Eleven also announced a free update for Prison Architect. Called The Tower, the update is available for all Prison Architect players, regardless of whether or not they own Prison Architect: Perfect Storm. The Tower promises various improvements, including new options for foliage and flooring, new search dogs, and an option to make snipers use nonlethal rubber bullets to incapacitate problematic inmates safely.
Prison Architect: Perfect Storm is available on PC, Xbox One, PS4, and Nintendo Switch.
