Sebastian Bear-McClard, known for his work producing Uncut Gems and being Emily Ratajowski’s ex-husband, has been accused of sexual misconduct after several women that have previously worked with the producer have come forward with statements claiming that Bear-McClard has been taking advantage of his position in the film industry to take advantage of and assault young women for nearly seven years.
The oldest of the statements leveled against Sebastian Bear-McClard dates back to early 2016 when he allegedly contacted a 17-year-old girl on Instagram and offered her a position in Good Time, a film he was working on with Joshua and Benjamin Safdie at the time. After meeting the girl at his loft and informing the Safdie brothers he’d found the perfect candidate for their film, Bear-McClard invited the girl, who had jumped at the chance to meet teen heartthrob and Twilight star Robert Pattinson, to the set of Good Time in New York. Once there, the girl – according to her statement – waited around all day for her call. Once she was called, she quickly ended up naked in a cramped room with a dozen male cast and crew members, including Sebastian Bear-McClard and both Safdie brothers, and instead of meeting Robert Pattinson, she was matched with an actor fresh out of prison.
In a statement collected by Variety, the girl – now 24 – recalls that she was “utterly stunned and felt terrified” throughout the experience, stating that “My distress only worsened when out of nowhere, [an actor] whispered in my ear if ‘he could stick it in’ while the cameras rolled. I said ‘no.'” Sources report that as production on Good Time ended, Sebastian Bear-McClard would continue engaging in sexual relations with the girl – who, at 17, just met New York’s age of consent – in a consensual relationship for two years.
The statement regarding the events of the Good Time scene is one of three being leveled against Bear-McClard in the middle of his contentious divorce from Emily Ratajowski. Neither party has come forward to acknowledge the accusations against Bear-McClard, though friends of Ratajowski say she “isn’t surprised” by the allegations.
Multiple Women Accuse Sebastian Bear-McClard of Misconduct, Assault
A second allegation leveled against Sebastian Bear-McClard covers his actions on the set of Adam Sandler’s Uncut Gems (2019), where an 18-year-old woman states that a then-married Bear-McClard once again contacted her on Instagram and began “grooming” her by leveraging his position in the film industry to make hefty career promises. A relationship between the two allegedly grew from there until the woman describes an incident that took place in the apartment Bear-McClard shared with Ratajowski.
“Sebastian and I started kissing,” she told Variety. “Things escalated and then, without asking for my consent, Sebastian inserted himself inside me without using a condom.”
The woman also recalled how Bear-McClard would use derogatory language when speaking to her, only to later claim he was joking; in addition, she claims he began tracking her through a phone app and that she witnessed him messaging a 15-year-old girl on Instagram after she visited the set of Uncut Gems. A third statement, given by a woman who has reportedly worked with Sebastian Bear-McClard through freelance film work, does not accuse him of workplace sexual misconduct but does confirm that the producer was involved in various other kinds of “troubling behavior.”
In response to these allegations, Sebastian Bear-McClard was fired from Elara Pictures, the production company he shared with the Safdie brothers, last summer. In a statement released by a spokeswoman for the Safdies, Variety shared that “The Elara team were made aware of Sebastian McClard’s behavior in July 2022. They took immediate action and terminated him.”
It is unclear what effect the sexual misconduct accusations may have on Sebastian Bear-McClard’s ongoing divorce from Emily Ratajowski, who submitted “[an] irretrievable breakdown of the marriage” to the Supreme Court as the reason for the pair’s split. More information on the accusations being leveled against Sebastian Bear-McClard will likely be made available at a later date.
