It’s still weeks until November 12, when the PlayStation 5 will finally launch worldwide. Funny enough though, people are already selling PS5 custom plates all over the internet. Not really a huge surprise since so far Sony only offers white-colored plates for all PS5 systems while fans already demanded more colors. One of the popular sellers is the pretty pun-y The Plate Station (previously PlateStation5.com).
The Plate Station is a UK-based company that offers free worldwide shipping for its PS5 custom plates. Written on the site’s FAQ, it will start shipping the plates around the PS5’s release on November 12th, and delivery approximately takes five to seven working days. It currently offers five different color variations (that you can’t mix-and-match) for $39.99:
- Cherry Red
- Indigo Blue
- Jungle Camo (camo green)
- Chromatic (grey)
- Matte Black (only available till the end of the year)
These plates won’t have the PlayStation logo on them as The Plate Station isn’t selling official Sony accessories. A while ago, a premier luxury customizing brand Truly Exquisite was also taking pre-orders for “luxury” PS5 custom plates. From 24K Gold, 18K Rose Gold, to Platinum-plated PS5, along with the DualSense controller and 3D Pulse headphones. As you can expect, they are pretty pricey. They were sold for about $9400 to $9700 and only 100 units per model were available to buy online.
Sony has somewhat confirmed that the PS5 will be getting official custom plates as well, at least in the near future. On LinkedIn, VP of UX Design at PlayStation Matt MacLaurin wrote that the PS5 chassis is customizable “in ways previous gens weren’t” when someone asked him about the potential of a matte black finish. MacLaurin also wrote that we will definitely be seeing PS5 custom plates for limited-edition releases.
What do you think? Will you be getting other colors for your PS5 when the console hits stores later this November? Or are you going to wait for official PS5 custom plates instead? Share your thoughts in the comments below.
