Chip Zdarsky’s Public Domain series is getting an official print release. CBR has exclusively revealed that Image Comics will be releasing a physical copy of the series. It will be available for purchase later this June.
What is Public Domain?
Chip Zdarsky, the recently announced new writer for DC’s Batman, began publishing Public Domain last year. The writer released the comic exclusively on his Substack page back in September. This is a format where creators can send newsletters and other work directly to readers through a monthly subscription. However, Zdarsky admits that he was “itching to draw a new series” and his Public Domain series was a perfect choice.
An official synopsis of the series has been released from Image Comics. In it, the series is touted as a “thought-provoking” look at the relationship between creators and corporations. Here is what Public Domain will focus on: “Public Domain follows Syd Dallas, the legendary comic book artist responsible for pop culture’s greatest hero: THE DOMAIN! But his sons Miles and David have a complicated relationship with both the creation and their creator. Can they convince their dad to fight for their family’s legacy?”
Sounds Interesting…What Else Does Zdarsky Have Going On?
A few weeks ago, DC announced that Chip Zdarsky would be handling the main Batman series. However, that is not all the creator is working on. He is currently hard at work on an upcoming Daredevil relaunch for Marvel. For that series, Zdarsky is teaming up with artist Marco Checchetto. It is slated to release later this summer as well.
But that is not all. Image Comics is currently releasing Newburn from Zdarksy and Jacob Phillips. The monthly comic is a crime procedural described as “Sherlock Holmes meets The Wire.” Now, the Public Domain series will join this lineup.
It sounds like the comic writer has a busy year ahead of him. You can catch his previous work on series like Howard the Duck and Spider-Man: Life Story.
