Hindsight can be a funny thing. There probably weren’t many people out there who looked at Xenoblade Chronicles 2 and thought “yeah, there’s gonna be statues of this very soon.” Yet here’s Pyra by Goodsmile, and now that she’s here, one can’t help but think “okay, that was pretty much inevitable.” And man, does this figure look incredible.
Pyra’s pose is inspired by concept art drawn by Masatsugu Saito, the character designer himself. Every minute detail has been lovingly crafted, producing one very high-quality collectible. One almost gets lost admiring the bright, shiny colors and the dynamic action shot that makes everything about this figure so appealing. This one will seriously stand out among other statues – just remember to clear a decent space or it, ‘cuz it’s gonna take up a bit of room.
The figure stands at just over eight inches high, around the norm for 1/7 and 1/8 scale collector statues. Perhaps the most impressive details are the sword (obviously) and the texture on her shirt and gloves. The face might be a tad too round, but once again the careful paint job on the eyes is the thing to look at. Translating a face onto a collector’s statue is a difficult feat to accomplish, simply due to the way the paint can look on the material. Given that, Pyra looks about as awesome as a star character can get.
Pre-orders are open now on Goodsmile’s website and will set buyers back a modest $162. That’s a phenomenal price for the quality of the product, not to mention the popularity of the character. It could have ended up being another $50, easy. Pyra will ship out December of next year, and it’s hard to predict how long the statues will be in stock for. If you’re a huge XC2 fan, you’ll certainly want to consider getting while the getting is good.
