Today, Bethesda kicked off their annual QuakeCon event, letting fans of not just the infamous Quake series but the Bethesda lineup get in some sweet goodies! With more information regarding Deathloop, Doom Eternal, and more, fans like myself are eating well with plenty of news about the future. For the game central to the conference though, Quake fans got word of a now available “remaster” (which we’ll talk about further below)! Alongside this, Quake I, II, and III Arena are now available on Xbox Game Pass!
This new offering is great, as those like myself who have yet to play a Quake title can finally have the chance to. Quake is an iconic franchise, with its bunny hopping mechanic becoming a staple in more modern titles such as Counter-Strike: Global Offensive. It also went on to help inspire some of the modern retro shooters such as a personal favorite of mine, DUSK. It’s an iconic series, one that you have more than enough reasons to check out.
And for veteran fans of the series, this release of Quake I is a remaster of sorts. Not in the traditional sense, with graphics that look as though they belong in modern-day, but an HD update of sorts. The revitalized edition includes 4K resolution, enhanced textures + lighting, online/local co-op functionality, and best of all, a brand new expansion created by MachineGames, developers of the modern Wolfenstein titles. That’s a lot to take in, but the title should still feel like the great classic you grew up and fell in love with. And with Quake II and Quake III Arena to boot, there’s more than enough content to last you a while.
The Quake I remaster is available on PC, PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch platforms. Are you excited to play the Quake series on Xbox Game Pass? Let me know in the comments below!
