Quantum Leap revival rumors swirl at Peacock. The NBC streaming service may bring back the early 90s favorite.
Quantum Leap debuted in 1989 and ran for four seasons until ending on a quasi-cliffhanger in 1993. The show starred Scott Bakula as Dr. Sam Beckett. Dr. Beckett, after an experiment gone wrong, went back in time to set right what once went wrong. Accompanying Sam on his journey was the hologram of his friend from the future, Al Calavicci. Together the two would help people, all the while, try to figure out how to get Sam home.
*Spoiler Alert*
The show ended its four-year run by fading to black with a title card explaining that Dr. Sam Beckett never returns home. The doors for a sequel series or continuation of some sort were left wide open at that point.
There was some talk in 2009 of SyFy rebooting Quantum Leap with an all-new cast, but that quickly died before gaining much steam. At some point, there were rumors that a new show would follow Dr. Samantha Beckett, Sam’s daughter, as she went back in time to find her father. I personally like this idea, but nothing has ever come of it.
Now that NBC is starting Peacock, its own streaming service to rival Netflix and Disney+, they need content. A Punky Brewster revival, as well as a Saved by the Bell reboot, are already in the works for the streaming service. Nostalgia is still in for the moment, and it seems everyone is mining the vaults for once-popular content.
The Punky Brewster revival will see the return of Soleil Moon Frye as the titular character. Punky, now an adult, meets a young girl that reminds her of herself when she was a kid. Saved by the Bell will see Zach Morris, AC Slater, and Jessie Spano back in action. The original actors are set to return.
There aren’t a whole lot of details about what a Quantum Leap revival would look like. Scott Bacula is busy on NCIS: New Orleans and Dean Stockwell is 82 and hasn’t acted in five years. It’s not impossible to get both actors back, but for now, it’s all just talk and hearsay. If the rumors get upgraded to facts, we’ll update our readers accordingly.
