Race with Ryan launched just a few days ago, and yet, it has already landed in some controversy.
Twitter user Tiniest Turtles datamined the game to discover a texture pack of Ryan with a stitched-up mouth, and blood pouring out from his eyeballs.
To add to this, Outright Games’ specialty is kids games, their portfolio includes everything from Adventure Time to Paw Patrol. Which begs the question, how many others are like this? Tiniest Turtles believes this is just a joke from one of the developers, and it is pretty unlikely that a kid is going to manage to find the textures because they are unused. But ethically this is not cool. Plus it will obviously be concerning to Ryan’s family to see this and indeed any fans.
Most parents allow their kids to watch YouTube, and the one personality that is probably recognizable if you have kids is Ryan, of Ryan’s World. His channel has over 22 million subscribers, he also has a Nickelodeon show –Â Ryan’s Mystery Playdate, several branded toys, toothbrushes, and other accessories that kids love.
Ryan also has a love of video games, his license was used for an endless run game similar to Temple Run, and now a game called Race with Ryan. Developed and published by Outright Games, who proudly have the Safe in Our World charity logo stamped on their website. A charity that encourages good mental health, wellbeing, and support through video games.
Not so long ago we covered how the British Esports Association had just released a parenting guide. In the guide, they talk about how to stay safe online while encouraging your kids to pursue an esports career. We spoke a little in the article about how there are some concerning YouTube videos that kids watch. The images found in Race with Ryan have a striking similarity to some of the weird videos that you can find pretending to be for kids.
We have reached out to Outright Games and Safe In Our World for comment.
