It’s no secret that whatever you wear on your shirt is a statement, regardless of whether you’re aware of the meaning or not. In one woman’s case in Kansas City, Missouri, she’s fully aware that her anti-KKK shirt (Ku Klux Klan) is a brave statement against one of the most racist groups in US history. However, a random White Karen begged to differ, and she even confronted the Black woman, telling the latter that her anti-KKK shirt is supposedly racist:
Keiajah Kelley is the Black woman in question, and she hails from Kansas City. Kelley is also an activist and an artist for a shirt business, and her most famous design is an artwork of a KKK member being hanged– something she kept promoting and wearing out in public places. During one of these promotions, Kelley allegedly managed to rile up what she claimed to be a White woman in a supermarket.
Specifically, the White woman walked up to Kelley and said, “Your shirt’s pretty f***ing racist, by the way,” argued the Karen. Kelley asked, “Are you a Klan member?” to which the Karen replied, “No,” but still insisted that the anti-KKK shirt is “Just offensive” to “Other People,” but Kelley then clarified that it would only be offensive to Klan members. She also didn’t further escalate the alleged argument.
Kelley also didn’t reveal in the camera who the White Karen was, and cut the video after the confrontation. It’s worth noting that this isn’t the first time Kelley allegedly drew some odd or confused attention to her shirt design. At the back of the shirt, there’s a clear indication that the shirt is anti-KKK with the words “Kill the Klan,” and it’s not clear which part the White Karen in the most recent video was offended by.
People Online Say It’s the Opposite of Racist
Regardless of who or what happened to the White Karen in the supermarket, many people online have rallied in support of Kelley for her bold statement against the KKK. Kelley claims that many of her customers for her shirt designs are even White, and they also left some supportive comments on her post:
“It’s literally anti-racist,” points out one TikTok user
“‘Areeee you a clan member?’ I’m dying”
“White guy here that owns the shirt. Love the stares I get”
“its actually not racist at all thats crazy😭”
“Who in their RIGHT MIND, would be offended by that shirt unless you’re AFFILIATED and see YOURSELF IN IT?”
Without a doubt, Kelley’s KKK shirt design is popular– so popular that other business owners even tried to print their own counterfeit designs. Kelley has since placed a copyright on the design and even managed to take down other businesses trying to steal her shirt logo. Meanwhile, other people have warned Kelley about her promotions, as some extremist groups can be rather unpredictable.
“Look at the hate map on SPLC website. I support the message but these hate groups are still active to this day. You should be very aware when wearing this in public,” warns a TikTok user
“Not her outing herself instead of just minding her own klan lady business 😂”
