Sometimes in life, you just need a break, even if it’s doing something you love like writing news about games and anime and all that other stuff that goes on in the world. Er, anyway, another example will be relatable to Akira Kuwahara. As a guitarist for the band Radwimps, Akira Kuwahara is no stranger to helping provide plenty of great music, especially in the world of anime. Radwimps, if you don’t automatically remember the name, composed tracks for the two latest Makoto Shinkai films, Your Name and Weathering With You, both of which were great films – helped by the great music in each of them.
However, sometimes that decision to go on hiatus can be down to external news that hangs over you like a storm cloud. That cloud for Kuwahara has turned out to be an extramarital affair he has since acknowledged after details of the affair leaked in an issue of The Weekly Bunshun magazine.
Radwimps’s remaining members, Yōjirō Noda and Yusuke Takeda have pledged to have a discussion about the future of the band and offered support to Kuwahara’s wife and child. The band was originally formed in 2001, and after a few members left and were replaced by Takeda and Satoshi Yamaguchi, there were the final four. Yamaguchi left in 2015 due to ongoing chronic health issues, leaving the remaining trio to continue the Radwimps name. That’s now in more jeopardy now that Kuwahara has left, so we’ll have to see what the future holds for one of Japan’s most successful bands.
What do you make of the news that Akira Kuwahara from Radwimps is taking a hiatus for a short while? Are you a fan of the band’s work in anime such as Your Name or Weathering With You? What’s your favorite Radwimps song or album aside from what was in those two anime films? Leave us a comment down below with your thoughts.
