The Razzies have rescinded their “Worst Performance” award category for Bruce Willis due to his recent aphasia diagnosis.
The Bruce Willis Razzie Award Has Been Reversed
Following an official statement from his family, Bruce Willis is stepping down from the acting business. It has been disclosed that the actor has aphasia, a comprehension disorder that impacts his cognitive abilities. Ultimately, this impacts his speech, making it increasingly difficult to communicate. Because of this, he’s retiring from the career that he has enjoyed so much throughout the past decades.
With this in mind, the Razzies have decided to revoke their category that was personally made for him. In 2021, Bruce Willis generated a stream of negatively received films that were so poorly reviewed that the parody award show created a “Worst Performance” just for him. Little did the award show know, and everyone for that matter, that the actor has a condition that affects his acting ability.
The Razzies shared in a statement detailing their resolution on the matter, saying:
After much thought and consideration, the Razzies have made the decision to rescind the Razzie Award given to Bruce Willis, due to his recently disclosed diagnosis. If someone’s medical condition is a factor in their decision making and/or their performance, we acknowledge that it is not appropriate to give them a Razzie.” – John Wilson and Mo Murphy, Razzie Co-founders
In addition to the Bruce Willis decision, the Razzies have also reversed their Shelley Duvall performance award. This comes after the revelations of how badly the actress was mistreated on set by director Stanley Kubrick for The Shining.
Bruce Willis is best known for starring as John McClane in the Die Hard franchise, but also had noticeable credits for The Fifth Element, Pulp Fiction, The Sixth Sense, and more through the years.
