Ernest Cline is about to release Ready Player Two, a sequel to his breakout 2011 novel. The upcoming book will take readers on yet another, more dangerous, easter egg hunt. Moreover, this time fans will have the unique opportunity to go on a virtual hunt of their own. Thanks to Cline and Dave Baszucki, the founder and CEO of Roblox, we’re getting another easter egg hunt to celebrate the launch of the sequel.
Players who jump into Roblox and find the easter egg will receive virtual goods designed specifically for the event. The event will begin during a virtual Q&A with Cline and Dave Baszucki, upon which clues for the Roblox hunt will drop. The event begins on December 1 at 10 a.m. In addition to the treasure hunt, for a limited time, free and exclusive Ready Player Two-themed merchandise will be available on Roblox.
This is not the first time that Ernest Cline and Roblox have teamed up for a crossover event. In 2018, they did a successful collaboration for the release of Steven Spielberg’s big-screen adaptation of Ready Player One. That event saw millions participate. It can only get bigger and better, right? Per Deadline, Baszucki weighs in on the upcoming event:
The event we did on Roblox in 2018 for the Ready Player One movie had over 13 million people participate. I think it’s fair to say this is going to be even bigger.”
Of course, both Roblox and the OASIS go pretty hand in hand. The two are infinite virtual playgrounds where players can be whoever they want. Cline can definitely see the comparisons. “Roblox is the closest thing to the Oasis in real life, and this contest is the closest thing to the treasure hunt in my book.”
Ready Player Two releases on November 24 and the virtual Roblox event will commence on December 1. Will you be joining in? Let me know in the comments!
