Real Housewives star Jennifer Shah pleads guilty and could face 14 years in prison. The reality TV star was recently arrested for a rather complex telemarketing scheme she had been orchestrating. It was a scam that focused on ripping off the elderly, which is truly unforgivable. She had initially pleaded not guilty, but it’s clear things are not stacked in her favor. So earlier today, she changed her plea to guilty. A crime that has a thirty-year maximum sentence attached to it.
When she changed her plea, the judge straight up asked her. “did you know what you were doing was wrong and illegal?” To which she boldly answered yes. Some may see that as a brave move of honesty, but it’s also a gamble. An admission of guilt is hard for anyone to think favorably of. Because we all know the admission is only the result of her being caught.
Real Housewives Star Jennifer Shah Pleads Guilty
“Shah and others were accused of carrying out a wide-ranging telemarketing scheme that defrauded hundreds of people throughout the U.S., many of whom were over age 55. She entered into a plea agreement with federal prosecutors in New York that called for a sentence of up to 14 years in prison. The plea agreement also called for Shah to make restitution to victims in an amount of up to $9.5 million. She also agreed to a forfeiture of $6.5 million.”
It takes a special layer of cruelty to try to target the elderly. A population that has barely anyone protecting or advocating for them. Considering she wasn’t exactly financially struggling, it makes it even more bothersome, truth be told. Real Housewives star Jennifer Shah is facing jail time. And in the court of public opinion, many say she is already guilty.
And in this world, all it takes is one major mistake to lose everything. In some cases, though, that is justified.
