Emojis and GIFs are not for everyone. Some of us don’t like them, but they’re parts of social media. Reddit is joining the social networks that are accepting these parts. The platform had supported emojis for years, and many users asked for animated images. Finally, Reddit added the built-in GIPHY feature to the comments, making sharing GIFs easier.
GIFs aren’t something new for users. We were already able to attach or link GIFs many times. The platform is making it more accessible, and that new way reminds us of the feature on Discord. If you’re using Discord, you probably know you can send GIFs by searching keywords on GIPHY or Tenor. Reddit’s new feature is similar to that.
Reddit Makes it Easier to Share GIFs With The GIPHY Support
Starting today, users can share GIFs more quicker in the comments section, thanks to the new partnership. GIPHY announced the collaboration with a new blog post and explained the details. The most significant advantage for users is unlimited usage. Reddit was supporting a service named Powerup, and it had restricted use. But now, we can share GIFs as much as we want, thanks to GIPHY. It’s available on mobile and web versions.
Also, GIPHY brought an option for the moderators. Now, they can choose between NFSW and SFW content. If they don’t want to let users post NFSW GIFs, they can head up to the moderation settings. Even if the NFSW GIFs aren’t available now, GIPHY support is enabled by default on every subreddit.
The GIF support was a problem for Reddit. Finally, they solve the problem with GIPHY’s collaboration. GIPHY has an extensive image library, and you’ll probably find everything you want on it.
If you plan to try it on mobile, be sure your application is up-to-date. Then it will be usable on many subreddits.
