After not having a host for three years, the Academy Awards will now have three of them. IndieWire reports that Regina Hall, Amy Schumer, and Wanda Sykes will host the 2022 Oscars, airing on March 27 on ABC. There have even been speculation and rumors for months leading up to this announcement. There was even a point where the Academy took to Twitter to get host suggestions from fans. At one point, Tom Holland (Spider-Man: No Way Home) was asked to host the event. Instead, we will have three iconic comedians taking over as the emcees for the biggest night in Hollywood.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, this is the first time in 35 years that three people will host the Oscars. It will also be the first time that many hosts have been women. Each host will emcee a separate hour, with Schumer kicking the show off. Interestingly, all the emcees have some connection to the show or the network. The show is produced by Will Packer, who Hall worked within the 2017 comedy film Girl’s Trip. Schumer’s new show Life With Beth is set to release on Hulu, which along with ABC, is owned by Disney. And Sykes has had a recurring role on the ABC comedy Black-Ish.
The 2022 Oscars will be the 94th Academy Awards Ceremony. Last year’s ceremony was the lowest-rated telecast of all time, and the Academy can only hope these three hosts can bring in more viewers. The Power of the Dog has the most nominations this year, 12 to be specific, while Dune follows behind with a close 11. Hall, Schumer, and Sykes will officially be announced as the hosts Tuesday morning on Good Morning America.
