Artwork for the upcoming reboot of Resident Evil 3: Nemesis has been leaked. Data mines of the Playstation Network found the images for the reboot to the 1999 classic. An alternate cover with the title Biohazard: RE 3 suggests it’ll be the one used for the Japanese market.
The three new covers feature original leads Jill Valentine and Carlos Oliveira, as well as the big bad Nemesis, the original antagonist of Resident Evil 3. The story follows Valentine in her attempts to escape Raccoon City, under siege from an infected population due to the T-Virus.
A remake to Resident 3 was reportedly in development, with a planned release for 2020, according to sources including Youtuber Spawn Wave, and a report in the Video Games Chronicle.
The Game Awards will be streaming live on December 12. As a result, an announcement on Resident Evil 3 is highly anticipated. Project Resistance, a four on one multiplayer game, is also in development by Capcom. The title is expected to be launched for 2020.
A teaser trailer was released for Project Resistance ahead of its debut screening at the Tokyo Game Show 2019. The co-op title was hailed as “disarmingly fun” by Polygon.
A closed beta will be made available to select players on Xbox One and PS4 in October. These include members of the Xbox Insider Program and Resident Evil Ambassador from October 4-7.
Resident Evil 3 will follow on from the critically successful Resident Evil 2 reboot in 2017, reviewed by Eurogamer as ‘a masterly reimagining of a modern classic’.
Summarising the review, Eurogamer said, “Even better, it toes the line between schlocky and scary that the older Resident Evil games managed so well, and does so in perhaps one of the most atmospheric settings ever to grace a survival horror game.”
Resident Evil 2 has been nominated for Game of the Year at the 2019 Game Awards. So far it has already scooped up the Golden Joystick for 2019’s Ultimate Game of the Year.
