No, this is not the Netflix series about the “Wesker kids“. This isn’t Capcom’s CG movie, Infinite Darkness, either. According to Deadline, another Resident Evil movie is currently in the works by Constantin Film to be distributed by Sony Pictures’ Screen Gems domestically. This new Resident Evil movie reboot will be helmed by writer-director Johannes Roberts (47 Meters Down) who said:
With this movie, I really wanted to go back to the original first two games and re-create the terrifying visceral experience I had when I first played them whilst at the same time telling a grounded human story about a small dying American town that feels both relatable and relevant to today’s audiences.”
With this announcement, they also revealed the cast list. All of them will be playing fan-favorite characters from Resident Evil 1 and 2:
- Claire Redfield will be played by Kaya Scodelario (Maze Runner).
- Jill Valentine will be played by Hannah John-Kamen (Ant-Man and the Wasp).
- Chris Redfield played by Robbie Amell (Upload).
- Leon S. Kennedy played by Avan Jogia (Zombieland: Double Tap).
- Albert Wesker played by Tom Hopper (The Umbrella Academy).
- William Birkin played by Neal McDonough (Yellowstone).
Johannes together with franchise producer Robert Kulzer added on Tuesday that they have conceived an origin story adaptation that will “faithfully” tie to the Resident Evil franchise:
After a dozen games, six live-action movies and hundreds of pages of fan fiction, we felt compelled to return to the year 1998, to explore the secrets hidden in the walls of the Spenser [sic] Mansion and Raccoon City.”
Constantin Film’s CEO Martin Moszkowicz and Davis Film’s Victor Hadida will act as executive producers. Constantin Film’s Alex Westmore and Colin Scully are overseeing the project. Outside of the US, Sony Pictures Releasing International will distribute the Resident Evil movie reboot. So what do you think of the cast? Will they ever stop making Resident Evil movies?
