With Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order launching later this year, and a gameplay trailer out in the wild, many fans have speculated on how the game will play once it is physically in their hands. Per the gameplay trailer, you can see the main Jedi, Cal Kestis locking onto enemies, rushing up for attacks and dodging when necessary. With these aspects on full display, it isn’t much of a shock that people are drawing parallels to From Software titles. The makers of Dark Souls, Bloodborne, and most recently, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice have built their entire brand on this style of gameplay. It seems that the fans were right to point out the comparison.
In an interview with Edge Magazine (via WCCFTech), Jason de Heras, the combat designer for the title said this about the comparisons between Sekiro and Jedi Fallen Order:
I thought it was pretty badass, and a little comforting to know that you could make this type of game without a stamina bar. They let you attack, they let you roll, they do all this for free–and then the AI will tell you if you’re doing the correct thing. It just confirmed to us that you don’t have to limit everything the player does; let them have a little more agency, and then let the AI give them a slap on the wrist or a punch in the face. It was a positive thing for us to know there was a game that was similar to ours. Very similar.
This is great to hear as for many fans as people worried that Jedi Fallen Order may be on the easier side with how much agency it gives the player to roll over enemies. If Respawn is truly pulling inspiration from From Software titles, then it should give hopefuls a bit of reassurance that Jedi Fallen Order will give a solid level of depth to gameplay to make things challenging, but fair.
You can find out just how much this comparison holds up when Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order launches on November 15, 2019, on Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
