At least from my perspective, the retro FPS renaissance we’ve seen over the past six years or so is one of the greatest things to happen to the FPS genre of games. Because of that renaissance, we’ve seen such incredible titles hit the shelves as Dusk, Amid Evil, Ultrakill, Prodeus, and more which have provided incredibly fluid and enjoyable experiences well worth your time. Especially if you enjoy fast-paced visceral action. Thanks to that resurgance in old school shooters, yet another has chosen to hop in and give its two cents, as retro FPS Nightmare Reaper has departed Early Access and has debuted as a full experience filled with all the content you could ask for. Take a look at the newest trailer for the experience below!
While a tad light on story details, Nightmare Reaper follows the story of a young girl finding herself trapped away in an insane asylum. Left to nothing but her own thoughts and the concrete walls that surround her, her nightmares have come to fruition and haunt her in any way they can. Instead of succumbing though, this girl has chosen to fight back against the nightmares the only way she can: with a double-barreled weapon of vengeance. As the Steam page says “You rise to prevent her doom, and duke it out with nightmares, to reap salvation in blood.”. Can you survive nightmares as twisted as hers?
Like many retro FPS games out there, Nightmare Reaper takes on a simplistic art style reminiscent of its nostalgic time period, focusing instead on creating tight combat scenarios that equally challenge and exhilarate the best of the FPS gamers out there. And don’t forget the secrets, a staple of this sort of FPS.
Will you venture into the girl’s nightmares in Nightmare Reaper? Out of all the retro FPS games out there, which is your favorite? Let me know in the comments below!
