RHOBH alumni Yolanda Hadid has Lyme Disease. For those who may not know, Lyme Disease is transmitted to humans through the bite of infected black-legged ticks. Typical symptoms include fever, headache, fatigue, and a characteristic skin rash called erythema migraines. The real problem with it is it’s a lifetime affliction. It can be treated but can never be fully cured. Its severity ranges from not terrible to life-ruining. Yolanda Hadid’s case seems to fall between the two. But she had a relapse and decided to talk openly about it.
Many recall Yolanda Hadid from her stint on season 3 of RHOBH, where she made quite an impression. But lately, the emphasis has been on her time on the show and more on her quality of life and quality of health. Lyme Disease is a serious affliction, but we believe Yolanda Hadid talking openly about it will help others who may suffer from it as well.
It’s refreshing for someone to use their platform and power to be vulnerable in an attempt to help others. That is just what Hadid is doing.
RHOBH Alum Yolanda Hadid on Lyme Disease and Personal Growth
“After the loss of my mother, I really struggled with depression followed by a Lyme relapse…. the emotional stress and grief strongly affected my immune system. Learning to focus on myself, my health journey, and being present in this moment of my life,” Yolanda added. “Time has slowed down and feels a lot calmer, more time to just sit and actually read a book, time to reconnect with people, be creative, and most importantly, time with my family. I am excited to be back and see what you’ve all been up to.”
While Lyme Disease is quite debilitating, Yolanda Hadid seems to have a good grasp on it. She is clearly not letting it define her life. And if her honesty and vulnerability help others, we respect her even more. And anyone who hikes or spends time in the woods, be careful. It is very easy to contract.
