From The Real Housewives of New York, to Bethenny Ever After, Bethenny Frankel has established herself in the world of reality TV through her stints in the Bravo franchise. Yet, years after leaving the RHONY, her connection to the Bravo series is far from over. The star recently confirmed her return to her reality TV roots, albeit partly, through her appearance in a new Housewives-inspired podcast titled ReWives.
The re-watch podcast, produced by iHeartMedia, would see the TV personality watch iconic episodes from the hit Bravo series weekly. Each week, the podcast would feature an appearance from another celebrity, who would join Bethenny Frankel to dissect the ins and outs of the previewed episode on ReWives. Among the big names to appear on the podcast are Jerry Springer, Griffin Johnson, Kevin Nealon, Jerry Springer, Maren Morris and Dave Portnoy among others.
RHONY Bethenny Frankel Explains What To Expect On New Podcast
While this development comes as a shocker to fans, given the star’s open criticism of the Bravo franchise, she has her reasons for revisiting her Housewives stint on ReWives. In a recent interview with People the 52-year-old revealed that while the podcast would be a re-watch, it would not exactly focus on rehashing the dramas on the show, as was typical of the Real Housewives franchise which she once describes as “Women trashing women.” She explained:
“We don’t delve into that territory. I wanted to do a re-watch podcast, but I didn’t want to do something derivative. I didn’t just want to re-watch a show, scene by scene.”
After giving it much thought, Bethenny Frankel came up with the idea of addressing the real dynamics that went on underneath the trash-talking and drama that made the cut on RHONY.
Bethenny’s Take On Her Housewives Stint
During her interview, Bethenny Frankel also discussed interesting topics to look out for on ReWives, from family and fame, to friendship and finances. According to her, all of these dynamics played out during her RHONY stint. However, the show runners only chose to spotlight the drama and negative dynamics, knowing it would gain more viewership. She shared:
“I never realized how many interesting dynamics are underlying that you don’t really discuss because the media only discusses what’s splashy about it. And that’s what gets the headlines. So watching it back, I’m finding different things that were never talked about before. I’m not just picking up on the big shiny items.”
The Skinnygirl mogul noted that she would delve into not just the splashy parts of the show, but also insightful, and deep, meaningful aspects, like what led to the explosive altercation between Teresa Giudice and her brother Joe Gorga on RHONJ’s season 3 premiere. Bethenny is just one of many reality stars to accuse a show of spotlighting only the ugly dramas, while leaving out the insightful ones.
Earlier, she addressed her desires to never return to the Bravo series, saying it has devolved, and simply capitalized on the stars’ weaknesses. Notwithstanding, Bethenny Frankel recognized the Housewives franchise as her roots, and the part it played in launching her career. Hence, she knew she would never forget her stint on the show, or desist from referencing it in her future projects.
