Heads up, fans of The Walking Dead – Rick Grimes is set to return in a new movie!
But there’s one catch. The movie will appear in cinemas. That’s right – The Walking Dead is having its first cinematic feature.
This was previously teased on YouTube below. At the end of the short teaser, the text loudly reads: Rick Grimes Returns Only in Theaters:
This, therefore, validates The Walking Dead chief content officer Scott M. Dimple’s promise that Grimes would return in three feature-length movies. The only difference is that he claimed they would be direct-to-TV features. The decision to take the series to cinemas is quite the surprise, not to mention a huge jump for the franchise.
Not much is currently know about this movie or the planned two that will follow it. However, Gimple has said that they will follow Rick Grimes’ exploits after his exit in The Walking Dead season 9. As expected, Andrew Lincoln will reprise his role for the movies.
For those who need a reminder (or just love a good spoiler), Grimes was taken in by a mysterious helicopter after being severely injured in his final episode. Where that helicopter takes him will likely be revealed in the movies. Other than that, the plot remains a mystery – even its working title is Untitled The Walking Dead Movie.
This news follows the disappointing revelation that Lincoln will no longer return to direct an episode in the show’s tenth season. Initially, the actor had planned to “shadow a director”, learn the craft and make his directorial debut. However, scheduling conflicts have ensured that Lincoln’s chance to wear the directorial hat will have to wait a little longer.
But while it’s unknown when The Walking Dead movie will appear, fans know for a fact that season 10 debuts on October 6th, 2019.
