Creators of the wildly popular adult cartoon Rick and Morty often like to keep fans shrouded in uncertainty when it comes to the show’s future, but today, co-creator Justin Roiland released some big news that seems to confirm Rick and Morty is not going away any time soon.
Roiland said on Twitter that Adult Swim has renewed the satirical sci-fi show for 70 more episodes. While there is still no timetable for when Season 4 may air, a hashtag in Roiland’s tweet implies the toon is in the drawing stage.
More Rick and Morty coming. Looking forward to all the tweets asking where it is! #theydrawingit pic.twitter.com/KZild3B9rP

“Looking forward to all the tweets asking where it is!” Roiland said, with virtual tongue in virtual cheek.
Rick and Morty is coming off its best year in 2017, with its third season propelling the show into new markets, such as McDonald’s promotional stunts. Given the show’s track record of subverting viewer expectations and conventions, it’s fair to wonder if this announcement is for real. Thankfully, Adult Swim retweeted and confirmed Roiland’s claim, so maybe it’s safe to assume it’s really happening? Maybe?
If Rick and Morty does indeed get 70 more episodes, at its current pace that means seven more seasons stretched out over at least a decade, as seasons have contained ten episodes apiece and have been spaced more than a year apart.
Season three wrapped up in October 2017, leaving the family truly reunited for the first time all season. Jerry has been admitted back to the family, leaving a disgruntled Rick no longer the sole dominant male of the household. In a post-credits scene, a now-married Mr. Poopybutthole told viewers it would be a very long wait for season 4, which isn’t anything new.
Fans will have to be patient to see when exactly new episodes of Rick and Morty will air, but at least we know (probably?) that the show isn’t going away any time soon.
