Tonight is the night. For those who avidly follow Adult Swim or Dan Harmon, Rick and Morty should be a familiar name. The animated sitcom premiered last year and gained a cult following and another season. Tonight at 11:30 PM Adult Swim will be premiering a brand new episode. Rick and Morty follows the adventures of Morty Smith and his mad scientist grandfather Rick Sanchez. Each episode features high-concept sci-fi plot lines and usually a couple digs at Inception or Cloud Atlas. Rick and Morty draws hilarity from interstellar adventures and awkward moments. In between space battles we get to see how the Smiths function as a family. This results in some really tender moments, most of which are cut short by a loud belch from Rick.
If you haven’t been watching, you’re missing out. Adult Swim has all the episodes available for streaming on their website and Hulu subscribers can stream the hit show as well. As part of a viral ad campaign an interactive scavenger hunt was released on Instagram in which players can travel all over the galaxy to find easter eggs and collectibles as well as learn more about season two. The hunt can be started at @rickandmortyrickstaverse or via your browser here.
The new season has had a couple of trailers released already and if they’re anything to go by this season should be a wild ride. Creators Dan Harmon and Justin Roiland have been tight-lipped on the season’s plotlines, but they have confirmed that there will be another episode akin to season one’s “Rixty Minutes,” where Rick and Morty spend the episode watching transdimensional television. Harmon and co. have commented and said that they were trying to avoid obvious fanservice, this doesn’t fare well for popular characters like Mr. Meseeks or Gazorpazorpfield.
The new season premieres Sunday, July 26th, at 11:30PM on Adult Swim. Catch up on old episodes here.
