Rihanna to Perform at Super Bowl Halftime Show

Rihanna has confirmed that she will perform at the 2023 Super Bowl Halftime Show.  Yahoo! Entertainment reports that the 34-year-old Barbadian singer verified the news via an Instagram post of her tattooed hand holding up an NFL-branded football. Jay-Z’s entertainment agency Roc Nation, which features Rihanna on its roster, shared the singer’s post with the caption, “Let’s GO.” Roc Nation tagged Apple Music in the post, as Apple Music will replace Pepsi as the Halftime Show sponsor. This announcement comes following days of speculation that Taylor Swift was the potential choice to headline the Halftime Show. However, it’s Rihanna who will be taking the stage in the middle of the Super Bowl.

Rihanna Previously Rejected The Super Bowl Halftime Show

Rihanna’s choice to perform in the Super Bowl Halftime Show signals a change of heart for the singer. In 2019, Rihanna turned down the opportunity to perform in the Halftime Show as a show of solidarity with San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick who had been facing backlash for kneeling during the national anthem. Regarding the Super Bowl Halftime Show, Rihanna told Vouge in 2019, “I couldn’t dare do that. For what? Who gains from that? Not my people. I just couldn’t be a sellout. I couldn’t be an enabler. There are things within that organization that I do not agree with at all, and I was not about to go and be of service to them in any way.”

Rihanna, whose full name is Robyn Rihanna Fenty, is a nine-time Grammy winner, a fashion and cosmetics entrepreneur, and a committed humanitarian. She’s also had success as an actress, appearing in shows like Bates Motel and movies such as Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets, This Is the End, and Ocean’s 8.
