The development of the upcoming MMO inspired by League of Legends is still in the early stages, as a key producer on the project departs from Riot Games after almost a decade at the studio. This has led to fans having some doubts as to how the development of the game is going. This resulted in Riot Games’ President, Marc ‘Tryndamere’ Merrill, providing an update on the MMO’s development progress.
The departure of Greg Street, a producer on the upcoming League of Legends MMO, comes after nine years at the company. However, he leaves with confidence in the game’s development, stating that it’s in good hands and that it’s the right time to hand over the reins for the next phase.
At present, very little is known about the League of Legends MMO, but it’s set to join other LoL spin-offs such as Ruined King, the Mageseeker release, and the free-to-play fighting game, Project L.
Riot “Confident” in League of Legends MMO Despite Concerns
Marc Merrill’s update sheds a little more light on the game’s development progress, as he explains the direction the team is taking following Street’s departure. The MMO is still in early stages of development, but Merrill assures fans that the team is working hard to deliver an experience that players will love. However, he also acknowledges that it’s still a very long road ahead and thanks fans for their patience.
Despite Street’s earlier caution that there was “no guarantee this game will ship,” Riot’s confidence in the LoL MMO seems to have grown. Merrill notes that if they look at development as a race, Greg has run an amazing first leg with an incredible team, and whoever takes the baton next will be set up for success going forward.
There’s still no word on the release date or gameplay reveal for the LoL MMO, and with the focus on “early development,” it seems LoL fans will have to wait quite a while longer to see the game in action. But clearly, Riot’s approach to bringing the deep world of LoL into other genres of entertainment is working wonders.
