Riot Games have found themselves in the crosshairs of the legal department due to their working conditions. Originally filed in 2018, the gender discrimination lawsuit included the unfair treatment of employees, sexual misconduct, and internal biases that lead Riot Games to be a male-oriented space. 28 individuals were included in the original report and will be compensated. While the courts move extremely slow, the trial has finally seen its end with Riot Games paying the price. In 2019, Riot had originally agreed to only pay out 10 million which is where DEFH stepped in to set the record straight. After stating that 10 million would only be a fraction of the real cost, a new settlement has been reached. Riot Games has agreed to pay a sum of 100 million dollars to affected employees.

What Does Riot Games Gender Discrimination Lawsuit Mandate Them To Do?
After a rigorous court battle, Riot Games is taking their exit in the easiest way they can. Yet, only about 80 million will go to the affected people implicated in the suit. The other 20 will be for legal and lawyer fees Riot incurred. The California Department of Fair Employment and Housing (DEFH) alongside the Labor Standards Enforcement Division has placed another stipulation. Since then, the CEO of Riot Games, Nico Laurent has also come under investigation in March earlier this year. While conducting an internal review, Riot had stated that they found no evidence that implicated Laurent in any misconduct. While the case against Laurent is ongoing, the 100 million settlement from Riot Games is a good first step. Approval from a judge is the only thing the Riot Games case needs to become a landmark gender discrimination lawsuit in the gaming industry.
