About Rise of the Third Power
Initially revealed in 2017, Rise of the Third Power is a love letter to the SNES era of RPGs. The game looks to combine Japanese and Western game design elements and include some modern quality of life upgrades. The battle system emphasizes ability use, removing the need for a basic attack. Party member abilities are meant to be combined in being able to exploit enemy weaknesses. Each piece of equipment found, whether purchased or stolen, is a permanent, unique upgrade. Instead of finding replacements, the player buys or crafts upgrades. This avoids the tedium of gear management but gives completionists something to strive for.
Rise of the Third Power release will feature a 35+ hour story full of humor, drama, and tragedy. Players will gather a party of eight unique characters throughout the game. Each character has its own backstory, ambitions, and personality. The story will take the party on a suicide mission to prevent a war and topple the Arkadyan emperor. Enveloping the narrative is a vast world to explore. In this world, you will find plenty of side quests and optional story-related content. Also, like Ara Fell, players can freely save any time throughout the game; however, there are autosave points and prompts before important events. Returning as well are various difficulty options. The “Story” setting allows players the use of an auto-kill function on all enemies in order to progress quickly through battles if they choose.
Stegosoft Games had this to say about the game:
What matters more than anything is making our games with love. We didn’t think we could do that more than we did in Ara Fell, but we hope it shines through all the same in Rise of the Third Power.
