Robert Downey Jr is the newest actor in talks to join the cast of Christopher Nolan’s new film. The film is aptly named Oppenheimer, as the film will revolve around the famous scientist who was responsible for creating the Atomic Bomb. According to Deadline, Matt Damon and Emily Blunt may also be on the docket to join the film.
Robert Downey Jr would be an exciting addition to Christopher Nolan’s cast. Committed to the Marvel Universe for the past decade, fans are excited to see what he has on the horizon. Before Marvel, he had an impressive repertoire including working with Shane Black on Kiss Kiss Bang Bang. This friendship earned Black the directing position for Iron Man 3.
Downey and Nolan have not yet worked together and this would be an interesting new step in his career. Oppeneheimer is still in its early stages and certainly, more information is on the horizon. But there is one actor that has certainly been confirmed for Nolan’s new film.
Cillian Murphy; A Familiar Face
Christopher Nolan is known for reusing actors in his films. Nolan’s Batman franchise is full of actors who followed him from set to set. Christian Bale and Michael Caine have appeared in many properties. There is no word if Michael Caine will appear in Oppenheimer as he has made conflicting comments on the subject of his retirement.
However, one actor is confirmed to appear. Cillian Murphy has been a welcome addition to many Nolan films. He appeared as Scarecrow in every Nolan Batman film. He has also appeared in previous Nolan films Inception and Dunkirk. Murphy has an impressive resume as well. Nolan is not the only director to take a liking to him. Cillian Murphy has appeared in more than one Danny Boyle film. Murphy burst onto the scene in 28 Days Later and appeared in Boyle’s later cult classic Sunshine.
Judging from Murphy’s previous work with Nolan, this should be an impressive film. Details are limited at this time, but Oppenheimer is set to come out in 2023.
