Being a superhero means death around every corner, especially if you’re a Robin. Fortunately for Damian Wayne, resurrection runs in his family. In this week’s debut issue of the new Robin ongoing series, Damian bites off more than he can chew. Now it’s just a matter of time before the Son of Batman rises again.
The Bat-Family has been searching for Damian for a while now. Ever since the death of Alfred, Damian has been heading down a dark path. Though he isn’t the only Robin with anger issues, he nearly killed the K.G. Beast as revenge for the assassin’s attempted murder of Nightwing. But after he was stopped by his father and the Teen Titans, he abandoned both and has essentially been missing in action ever since.
**SPOILER WARNING for DC Comics’ Robin #1 by Joshua Williamson and Gleb Melnikov**
In the new series, Damian’s been searching for the mysterious League of Lazarus and their legendary tournament. At the start of this issue, he receives an invitation to join the tournament after brutally defeating the deadly King Snake in a cage match. He accepts the invite and journeys to the tournament on Lazarus Island. There he gathers alongside other fighters like Ravager, Raptor, and Connor Hawke. But Damian being Damian he almost immediately interrupts the proceedings to cut to the chase and instigates a fight, challenging all comers to take him on.
His immediate challenger is a new DC Comics character called Flatline. During combat, Flatline reveals that she can learn from any fighter that has died and use their defeats to ensure her victory. With these skills, she expertly parries Damian’s attacks and rips his heart out on the issue’s final page.
Now, this isn’t the first time that Damian Wayne has died. But seeing as how this is the Lazarus Tournament, it’s not hard to imagine that this won’t be the last either. As for how the youngest Robin makes it back from the grave, fans will have to wait till the next issue to know for sure.
How’d you like this DC debut issue of Robin? Are you as intrigued as I am by this Flatline? And have you heard the news about Damian’s best friend, Jon Kent? Let’s discuss down in the comments.
