Rogue Legacy fans who were looking for a new platform to become frustrated on all over again just had their wishes fulfilled. Just a few months after the game landed on the Switch, it has been released for the iPhone and iPad.
The Rogue-lite was an instant hit when it first released on the PC back in 2013. It’s been so popular on every subsequent platform that a mobile version seemed like a no-brainer.
In a recent press release, Rogue Legacy developer Cellar Door games made it clear they had offers before to bring its title to iOS. Kenny and Teddy Lee had rebuffed those offers until now.
The brothers were afraid their creation would lose some of its magic if it was moved to a touchscreen. Finally, they found the right team to work with on the port. Thus, Rogue Legacy: Wanderer Edition was born.
Among the tweaks made for the iOS edition is a new control scheme specifically built to work with touch controls. But this isn’t just a simple port for the iPhone or iPad.
Cellar Door Games has added two new minibosses, three new traits, three new armors sets, 30 new rooms, two new fairy rooms, a new relic, and some new NG+ platform mechanics.
For anyone who played the original Rogue Legacy and quit halfway through because it was simply too hard, the devs have promised they’ve dialed that down a bit. They also explained they understood this type of game simply couldn’t be as hard on iOS as it was on PC and consoles because people are playing it on the go and under less than ideal situations.
As a kind of “launch special” the game is currently being offered at a discounted $0.99. On August 12 the price will go up to $3.99. For anyone looking for a retro feel to a game that has the difficulty of something like Dead Cells, Rogue Legacy: Wanderer Edition is out now for the iPhone and iPad.
