Jyn Erso played by Felicity Jones is one of Star Wars‘ most badass heroines – but she only got one movie.
This fact isn’t lost on Felicity Jones, who played the character in 2016’s Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. In an interview with THR, the 37-year-old actress discussed reprising the role in future Star Wars films.
”I just keep saying that reincarnation is totally possible in the Star Wars universe,” she said, “So, I feel there’s unfinished business for Jyn, for sure.”
Indeed, there are limitless ways characters can come back in Star Wars. It’s a science fiction universe that’s even revived Darth Sidious for its ninth episode. So, the potential is there.
The interviewer cites rumors that Disney is extending Jones’s contract for a second film. When asked what she’d like to see for Jyn in the future, Jones said she’d like to see the character age.
”I think it would be fascinating to see her getting older and wiser and fighting the dark forces in the universe, of which there are many it seems,” she said.
And if that weren’t already many now, you can bet Disney’s creative teams will concoct new ones for Erso to fight if need be.
Jyn Erso died in Rogue One, alongside the rest of its main cast. She and her team are destroyed by the Death Star, alongside the entire planet they’re on. However, this is not before they heroically transmit the Death Star plans to the rebel forces.
While it’s up in the air whether Felicity Jones gets her spin-off, her former co-star certainly is. Diego Luna is set to reprise his role as Cassian Andor in a series taking place five years before Rogue One. It was set to start filming in June 2020, but COVID-19 has brought its start date into uncertainty.
